Amplifying the Voices on the Ground

Amplify

Join us for an evening of dialogue, networking and inspiration.

Saturday, March 5 at the Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts.

The evening will begin at 5pm with a panel discussion, in the Jorgensen Gallery.  Our goal for this forum is to center issues for communities that are traditionally marginalized; to make visible barriers to progress and engagement; and to identify strategies to empower and engage the electorate.

The panel will be facilitated by Evelyn M. Simien, Ph.D. Associate Professor, UConn Department of Political Science and Institute for Africana Studies and author of Historic Firsts: How Symbolic Empowerment Changes U.S. Politics (Oxford University Press 2015).

Our panelists include:

  • Mui Mui Hin-McCormick, Executive Director, Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission
  • Glenn Cassis, Executive Director, African-American Affairs Commission
  • Carolyn Treiss, Executive Director, Permanent Commission on the Status of Women

A networking reception for the panelists and participants will immediately follow until 7:30pm.   RSVP is requested at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/AmplifyingVoices.

Co-sponsored with the African American Cultural Center, Asian American Cultural Center, Puerto Rican Latin American Cultural Center and the Rainbow Center.
