Lauren is a student in the School of Engineering graduating with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and a minor in mathematics. Her work has been recognized by UConn Today in an article titled “Meet Werth Innovator Lauren Boulay ’21,” on UConn’s YouTube channel in a video titled “Anyone Can Be an Engineer,” and in the Fall 2020 Electrical & Computer Engineering Newsletter within a student spotlight.

To quote Dr. Liang Zhang (Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering), “Lauren has been an outstanding individual in and out of the classroom.” In her professional pursuits and personal life, she advocates for women, racial equality, mental health, and the LGBTQ+ community. Personally feeling the vulnerability of being in the LGBTQ+ community, Lauren hopes to create a safer environment at UConn.

She has many roles on campus as an Officer for the Society of Women Engineers, member of the Engineering Ambassadors, and a Werth Institute Innovator. In these positions, she promotes entrepreneurship to the local community and acts as a student activist for her peers, as she specifically aides in the advancement of women pursuing careers in STEM.

Lauren has been an ambitious creator when working with the Office of Naval Research at the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division and their optical engineering lab. There, she has constructed and tested unmanned underwater vehicles optimized with laser imaging, allowing the U.S. Navy to better scan subsurface objects in brackish water. In the future, she will study the field of robotics in graduate school and continue working in Engineering Research with the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division in Patuxent River, Maryland.
