Gabrielle Blazquez

Gabriella is graduating with a Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry.  Throughout her college career, she has achieved the Dr. Phillip T. Levine Scholarship as well as the Jacob and Ethel Greenberg Award in recognition of her research and community contributions in the field of Dental Medicine. Steven M. Lepowsky, the Dean from the School of Dental Medicine, notes that “Gabby has excelled in didactic, preclinical and clinical components.”

Gabriella has conducted research in areas of endodontic therapy, and compliance with and adherence to treatment recommendations in pediatric dentistry. Her research at UConn has resulted in three publications to date. She has served as a Pre-dental mentor for the past 4 years, and during her tenure as president of the School’s of the Endodontic Interest Group, Gabriella has dedicated her time into creating the group’s journal club to improve student understanding of scientific literature and assisted in developing new multimedia content to expand the predoctoral endodontic curriculum.

Gabriella also has her focus in other aspects of dentistry. Her Tedx Talk, “Moving Past Dental Fear” discusses the dental fear and how that can prevent an individual from getting the care they deserve. Dental accessibility is important to Gabriella, as she is also the founder of The Craft of Caring, a volunteer organization that distributes over five hundred health and hygiene kits for homeless community members. In addition to this, Gabriella has participated in dental screenings at migrant farm workers clinics and has spent time at Connecticut’s Department of Developmental Services, where in which she assisted in providing dental care to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

When she is not busy with all of this, she enjoys hiking with her dogs, reading, and listening to podcasts on history, philosophy and true crime.

In July, Gabriella will be starting a three-year long residency in endodontics at the University of Connecticut under the guidance of the wonderful faculty and residents at UConn.
