Gabrielle Mitchell

Gabrielle is graduating with a Masters in Social Work with a concentration in individuals, groups, and families. Last year, she co-chaired the Organization of Black Social Work Students. Not only does she possess a great skill in leadership, but Gabrielle also easily clears the way for important discussions that need to be held in these settings. Gabrielle is described as “an excellent student, committed to the field of social work.”

Gabrielle’s strong work ethic and ambitions can be reflected easily in her time here at UConn. When she is not spending her time swimming, studying metaphysics, or expanding her knowledge of the world by traveling, Gabrielle is working closely with children and young families. In 2020, she fiercely co-led two rallies in the Hartford community: the We Can’t Breathe march and a Women’s March. She was also involved in the racial justice team, diversity action team, child stat quality improvement, and the staff wellness team in her Department of Children and Families office and region.

After graduation, Gabrielle will continue her detailed work in DCF. She plans to move up in a leadership role within DCF, as well as take on pediatric social work, training and leadership development, and possibly teaching as an adjunct professor.
