Nicole Khusid

Nicole is graduating with a double major in physics and computer science with a minor in Astrophysics. Her consistent making of the Dean’s list combined with her being a recipient of the SURF Award: the 2021 Treibick Scholarship displays Nicole’s dedication to her field of study. She has also been awarded the United Technologies Corporation Scholarship in Engineering, Cantor Colburn LLP Endowed Scholarship in Engineering, as well as being a Babbidge Scholar.  Nicole’s keen intellect and tenacity is recognized In her nomination. Of particular note – she taught herself advanced physics topics such as gravitational wave emission from supermassive black holes and concise computer codes for her research.

Nicole’s involvement on campus includes her position as Vice President of the Women in Physics, being a tutor at the Homer Babbidge Library Q Center, and operating as an undergraduate teaching assistant, where she has been actively mentoring and providing guidance to fellow students. Nicole is also a member of the Society of Physics Students, the Alpha Lambda Delta National Honors Society, Sigma Pi Sigma and the Society of Women Engineers.

Her mastery in her field of study is reflected in her impressive thesis titled “Multimessenger Gravitational Wave Signals from Strongly Lensed Supermassive Black Hole Binaries,” in which she discusses gravitational-wave emission through concise research.

When she is not doing all that, she enjoys weightlifting, group fitness instructing, playing piano, hiking and reading.  After graduation, she will be pursuing her PhD at Stony Brook University in Physics & Astronomy.
