Michelle is a senior honors student graduating from the School of Nursing. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honors Society and University of Connecticut Honors Society. One of her most impressive undergraduate achievements has been her mental health and eating disorder advocacy. With Dr. Carrie Morgan Eaton, Assistant Professor at the UConn School of Nursing, Michelle established the UConn Chapter of Project HEAL, which is a non-profit organization centered on supporting individuals recovering from eating disorders, and served as President, Vice President, and Secretary.
She received the Social Sciences, Humanities, and Art Research Experience award in the Fall of 2018 for a mixed methods research project, “Posttraumatic Growth in Eating Disorder Recovery.” Michelle’s abstract of this work was presented at the American Psychiatric Nurses Association National Conference. In the words of Dr. Carrie Morgan Eaton, “She is consistent, dedicated, and passionate.” For her outstanding academic work and research, Michelle has earned the Sigma Theta Tau Undergraduate Award and a place on the Dean’s List from 2018 to 2021.
Active in many other aspects of the UConn community, Michelle has been the Morale Captain and JonaTHONs Captain for HuskyTHON, Co-Chair of UConn Nursing Mentor Program, UConn Peer Allies Through Honors Mentor, and member of the Student Nurses Association.
Post-graduation, Michelle plans to continue her eating disorder advocacy and impact the lives of patients and families receiving oncology care by first working as a pediatric oncology nurse and then receiving a doctorate in nursing to become a pediatric oncology nurse practitioner.
