Lilah Fones

Lilah is graduating from the School of Medicine with a Doctor of Medicine. She received her undergraduate degree in chemistry, neuroscience & behavior, and biology from Wesleyan University where she was an accomplished student and athlete, being a member of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Honor Society and given the Wesleyan University Hawk Prize for Effective Work in Biochemistry.

After graduating, Lilah worked to advance treatment of neurodegenerative disease and traumatic brain injury at the Burke Neurological Institute and Weill Cornell Medicine in White Plains, New York. Lilah has since pursued her passion for research at the UConn School of Medicine working on a capstone project— “Patient-Reported Outcomes, Return-to-Sport Status, and Reinjury Rates After Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction in Adolescent Athletes: Minimum 2-Year Follow-up”—and conducting orthopedic research at Connecticut Children’s and UConn Health.

Active in the community, Lilah has participated in the Urban Service Track and helped with a COVID-19 capacity building project. She has been a mentor to other women through the Inspiring Women in Engineering and Medicine workshop, Perry Initiative, I Look Like A Surgeon Too workshops, and Women in Surgery Interest Group. Other admirable engagements include completing leadership training through the AHEC Scholars Program and being President and founding member of UConn’s chapter of “Walk with a Future Doc.”

Her leadership and academic excellence have earned her the Lawrence G. Raisz Award for Excellence in Musculoskeletal Research and UConn School of Medicine Professional Honors in Leadership and Scholarship. Upon finishing medical school, Lilah will start an Orthopedic Surgery Residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.
